Our initial projects include efforts to engage nationally and in the specific communities of Princeton University, the city of New York, and the state of North Carolina.
SET is helping to launch the Solar College Initiative (SCI) – an effort to maximize the deployment of solar energy on America’s campuses. We have connected with hundreds of students on ~150 campuses and are in the process of building Campus Teams of student, staff, and alumni on our 20 pilot SCI campuses for the Spring which we will then expand to hundreds of campuses in 2009-10.
Our work with the Princeton community will be to help Princeton Students United for a Responsible Global Environment (SURGE) advocate within the alumni community for further climate policy leadership to accompany Princeton’s leadership in climate scholarship. The campaign is entitled PACE, Princeton Alumni for Climate Excellence.
SET aims to help foster sustainable energy policy in our headquarters City of New York. Our focus is to promote and support the creation of a bike share program in Manhattan modeled on successful initiatives in Paris and other European cities.
SET’s contribution to the North Carolina climate and energy scene includes education and action — writing a weekly blog on sustainable energy in NC beginning this summer and empowering NC campuses to become leaders in solar power deployment. These projects fall under SET’s ACE campaign, Advancing Carolina’s Energy, to ultimately help North Carolina develop long-term energy policy to navigate volatile prices, make the most of the state’s resources, and become a leader in climate responsibility.
